Perhaps one of my monikers best sums me up: Super Sean!
If there’s a course that needs teaching, some technology that needs fixing, or a good deed in general that needs doing, I’m there. No task, no matter how menial nor emergency, no matter how urgent, is too little or too much for Super Sean. You want a volunteer? You talk to me. I’ll put my hand up. Does this mean that I’ve become a jack of all trades, master of none? Not at all! I prefer to see myself as a Master Improviser, a Mr Versatility if you will.
Another creed I try to teach by is to ask myself the questions before every lesson, “Would I like being taught that and in that way?” If the answer’s no, I really do go to an awful lot of trouble sourcing, tailoring, designing and thinking of how to best present teaching materials, which are both relevant and engaging to my students. In fact, I’ve been known to stress over this a little too much at times. But after all, you’re only as good as your last lesson, in your students’ eyes that is.
